Saturday we had a birthday party for my grandmother. She is 85 years old this year. The last few years have been tough for her... she was diagnosed with breast cancer and then she began forgetting a lot of things. She has gone from being totally independent to having sitters and spending the night with my parents every night. It's been tough... for her and for us. It's hard to watch someone you love so much decline in this way. More than anything, we want her to have quality of life and we try hard to give her that. So, my parents have thrown her a birthday party for the last several years at their lake house. They invite all of her family from both sides. Everyone comes and spends the afternoon and celebrates her life. It's fun and she really seems to enjoy it.

Brady was out of town camping with a friend this past weekend, so he did not get to come. However, Leah and Christian really enjoyed playing with their cousins in the lake. This is the first year that I have allowed them to swim. In the past, I just didn't want to deal with the wet swimsuits etc.. I'm glad I changed my mind because they really seemed to have fun.

We all sang Happy Birthday to her... twice! Because if you make to 85, you should get to hear the birthday song more than once...

After dinner, we went on a pontoon ride around the lake. Leah enjoyed driving the boat. Christian declined to do this.. I guess he's too old..
Overall, it was a great day celebrating a great person!
