Flying Girl

Last week was "A" week in Kindergarten. The children went to the airport here in town and learned all sorts of technical airplane terms. They also got to see some of the cool planes and helicopters that reside there.

Here is Leah sitting in a helicopter. I was amazed at all the adults who have never flown in a helicopter. We flew in one in Hawaii and I really enjoyed it. It's a little loud, but so much better than a small plane. The pilot of this helicopter took off and flew around the airport to show the kids. I think he was showing off a little as he was going sideways and looping around.

Here is an interesting plane. Apparently, this plane is part of a project to get children interested in flying and one Saturday a month it (and two others like it) take children up in the air for free! How cool is that??

In the hanger is also an area where the children can simulate being in an airplane. Leah had lots of fun here pretending to be a stewardess and passenger.

Finally, it came time to actually fly. Half the class went up and then it became too windy. The rest of the children were sad. Fortunately, Mrs. Niedrach arranged to go back on Monday for the rest to fly.

The above picture is Col. Bob helping Leah into his plane.

There she is in the plane! Ready to go!!!

And she's off!

Fly, Leah, Fly! Leah really enjoyed this plane ride but said that it was "a little scary" when the plane had to turn. Overall, it was a great experience and she really enjoyed it!
