Sassy Girl

I'm going to take a break from my obsessive posts about hair to discuss another one of my children. But don't worry, I'm sure I'll pick them back up soon.

I wanted to blog about Leah. Leah is my sassy girl. I frequently call her "sassy" for a nickname. I guess it's not something to be proud of or encourage, but I can't help it. It's who she is. Last year in PreK, she would often roll her eyes and sigh when the teacher told her something she didn't want to hear. Not in a disrespectful way, but just in a sassy way. Brenda, her teacher, would have a tough time keeping a straight face. Leah loves to talk. That's no surprise to anyone who's been around her for any length of time. So, it's not hard to realize that she pretty much has a response for everything. However, she recently surprised me with her sassiness on the first day of school...

I walked into Berry to pick up the children on the first day of school. Before I even made it down to the classroom, I was pulled aside immediately by someone who said, "Hey, did you hear what happened?". Of course, I immediately thought to myself, "Oh my gosh, what did Christian do??? He's only been here for 4 freaking hours!!!". BUT... it was not Christian! I know, it's shocking. It was my sassy girl. Apparently, there was an assembly where the entire school was gathered. The director of the school was up front discussing rules and regulations and was talking with the children in a fairly strict tone of voice. It seems he said something to the effect of, "I want everyone here to listen and not get in trouble. I do not want to see any of you in my office this year!". To which my daughter (who was sitting in the front row very near him) piped up and said in a loud voice, "Well, we don't want to see you in our classrooms!". I guess she felt that he was getting onto her and she felt the need to respond. Needless to say, I was somewhat horrified. I was also somewhat amused. Okay, if I'm being honest, I was more than somewhat amused. But I didn't let her know that. In front of the whole school! That is such a Scot thing to say!! Scot is never at a loss for words and frequently says things that get him into trouble. It seems I now have two children who take after him. I may go crazy... :) Leah is supposed to be my easy one. This year is supposed to be worry-free for me! I guess my children are always going to be unpredictable. Life with them is never dull.
